We were introduced to Dieuveille, an 11 year old boy living in a local hospital.

When he was only eight years old, Dieuveille fell off a train from Brazzaville while he was escaping from an abuse aunt. He was attempting to return to his family in Pointe-Noire. After he was taken to the hospital and underwent double leg amputation, his family never came for him. For three years, he lived at the hospital, spending his days in the lobby and sleeping in the same small bed. As we found his family, they admitted they were afraid to come to the hospital, as they were unable to pay any medical bill or to care for Dieuveille’s medical needs. Reunification would not be possible, and so Dieuveille now lives in Nkayi at our Mwana Refuge with his new family: Mama Rebecca, brother Amour, and sister Merveille.
