Deborah is a young mother who lost her mother, father and stepmother all before she reached her teenage years. Having just given birth to her second child, she came to Mwana to abandon her malnourished child, seeing no other option for survival for her daughter. But Mwana took them both in and cared for them while they regained their strength, healing physically and emotionally.
Deborah has since been hired as a full-time Mwana employee, has been supported to continue her education, and is the recipient of a community-supported grant for entrepreneurial training. While Cherida joins us at the Mwana Refuge each day during her mother’s work hours, she and Cherida live independently.
